Railroad Systems Technologist


Riverside, California based Railroad Systems Design firm is currently seeking a Railroad Systems Technologist to work out of our Riverside office. A successful candidate will be responsible for electrical circuit design, estimate and/or bill of material creation, technical specification writing or field support on projects. The Railroad Systems Technologist will follow established client standards to develop electrical circuit plans, estimates, bills of materials and technical specifications. The Railroad Systems Technologist will consult with project managers regarding client standards. A successful candidate will also possess the qualifications listed below:

  • Associate degree or equivalent in science or engineering preferred or at least a minimum of 5 years demonstrated experience in electrical circuit design.

Qualifications and Skill Requirements:

  • Ability to read and develop electrical circuit plans
  • Ability to review electrical circuit plans for development of estimates and/or bills of materials
  • Ability to develop technical specifications
  • Ability to translate electrical circuit plans for technical support to field forces as needed
  • Proficiency in working with Microsoft Office (MS Excel, PowerPoint) and other software products
  • Ability to work with internal and external customers
  • Ability to multi-task and handle multiple priorities
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and/or Bentley Microstation CAD software
  • Outstanding computer skills
  • Flexible and adaptable
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Familiarity with railroad train control and/or communications systems is preferred
  • Clean driving record required


  • Develop electrical circuit plans based upon federal and state regulations as well as client standards
  • Develop estimates and/or bills of materials based upon electrical circuit plans
  • Develop technical specifications
  • Under the direction of your project manager, review, execute submittal requirements and meet submittal due dates
  • Ensure submittal package content is complete and technically accurate
  • Technical support in the field as required
  • Field inspection, observing the contractor adhering to federal and state regulations, client standards, electrical circuit plans and technical specifications which documenting contractor actions within a daily report complete with photographic information of work performed utilizing a company provided vehicle

Most time spent at a computer workstation in an office environment. Field visits and/or field inspection may be required and adherence to federal, state and client rules and regulations are required when in the field.
