About Project

SCORE is a $10 billion capital improvement program with track, grade crossing, station and signal improvements to be completed in time for to support the 2028 Olympic and Paralympics Games in Southern California.  Riders will see safety improvements and have access to peak and off-peak rail service.  The series of projects, located throughout Metrolink's five-county region, are anticipated to create hundreds of new jobs within the community.

The Rancho Cucamonga Siding Extension Project will upgrade Metrolink's current regional passenger rail services along its existing San Bernardino Line. The 0.9 mile project includes new rail infrastructure that will be constructed almost entirely within SCRRA’s existing right-of-way (ROW). The project will enhance operational efficiencies along Metrolink’s San Gabriel Subdivision by extending the existing track siding by 4,600 feet. The proposed improvements also aim to improve on-time performance, improve routine maintenance and access, and enhance safety.

The project includes installation of a new #24 power turnout, pedestrian safety improvements to two at-grade crossings, new track panels at the grade crossings, extension of drainage culverts, addition of a new control point CP Vineyard, removal of existing control point CP Archibald, and installation of 2 intermediate signal locations.


Project Scope, Successes


    PRE provided detailed circuit plans for wayside signal systems, crossing warning systems, hazard detection systems and communications systems.  Submittals supported included 60%, 90%, 100% and Camera Ready plans, specifications and estimates.  The project required an analysis of aspect and braking charts to determine placement of signal systems, and adjust train detection warning systems for existing grade crossings.  Existing communications in the project area is currently supported by Ethernet radio and Microwave networks. The project will install fiber between CP Vineyard and Rancho Cucamonga station to improve reliability of mission critical Positive Train Control (PTC) communications. During the project, PRE personnel participated in field investigation, CPUC crossing diagnostics, commercial power coordination and the development of construction phasing plans to minimize interruption to existing train operations.
